Photonic Jet Writing of Quantum Dots Self‐Aligned to Dielectric Microspheres

Owing to their ability generate non-classical light states, quantum dots (QDs) are very promising candidates for the large-scale implementation of information technologies. However, high photon collection efficiency demanded by these technologies may be impossible reach “standalone” semiconductor QDs, embedded in a high-refractive index medium. In this work novel laser writing technique is presented, enabling direct fabrication QD self-aligned—with precision ±30 nm—to dielectric microsphere. The presence microsphere leads an enhancement luminescence factor 7.3 ± 0.7 when objective with numerical aperture employed. This exploits possibility breaking N−H bonds GaAs 1 − x Nx:H light, obtaining lower-bandgap material, Nx. microsphere, deposited on top Nx:H/GaAs well, used photonic nanojet, which removes hydrogen exactly below creating Nx at predefined distance from sample surface. Second-order autocorrelation measurements confirm QDs obtained emit single photons.
